The most famous photo of Wilbur WRIGHT flying over Hunaudieres horse track The 1st take-off of the WRIGHT brothers in Europe! The counterweight pull-up with Leon BOLLEE

8th August 1908 - 8th August 2008

Centennial D day of 1st Wright brothers public flight

The 1st exhange between all pioneers

Hunaudieres horse track, Le Mans, France

On 8th August 1908 this is estonishing of the 1st WRIGHT brothers public flight before several dozens of persons among great pioneers of that period: Louis BLERIOT, Ernest ARCHDEACON, Ernest and Paul ZENS, Rene GASNIER du FRESNE, Leon BOLLEE, Frantz REICHEL, George DICKIN, George DURAND, René PELLIER, Hart O. BERG,...

...and also the little Henri DELGOVE, who announces the news to the city and who would be so important to transmit story to future generations.

It is here where all European pioneers learn from Americans - the WRIGHT brothers - the control of flight and how to master the turn thanks to the practical wing warping system. This practical missing piece of the "puzzle" will after permit to the numerous European pioneers - among them the Frenchs - to surpass in 1909 the American school.

The Hunaudieres horse track, 1st sporting field (created in 1851) of this Le Mans area is today surounded by the Le Mans international automobile circuit, worlwide reknowned becaus eof the 24 Hour race (www.lemans.org ) and the Le Mans Classic (www.lemansclassic.com ).

This is above Hunaudieres horse track where Wilbur WRIGHT makes his 1st European flights from 8th to 13th August 1908. This preserved site, practically  unchanged since 1908, is a master piece of the world history of aviation. This is here where the WRIGHT brothers built their 3rd hangar / shed after those of Kitty Hawk (North Carolina, USA) and Huffman Prairie near Dayton (Ohio, USA). This is where military people and governments understand that aeroplane (airplane) can surpass dirigible performance and represent a true technical solution for future.

Wilbur WRIGHT, called the "Birdman", impress with his flying performances and, most imprtant, by his capability of controlling and manoeuvring his airplane, the Flyer III, in a narrow area (horse track of 400 yards width and 800 yards length).

Before Le Mans it's dirigible, after Le Mans it's modern aviation !
