Monument to honor Wright brothers and pioneers of aviation, Le Mans, Sarthe, France

The WRIGHT monument at Jacobins square in Le Mans, Sarthe, France, was created by a proeminent French sculptor of the first half of 20th century, Paul LANDOSWKI. This artist was presented for the Roma Prize then created numerous sculptures throughout the world, including the famous CHRIST of CORCOVADO on top of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and also Sainte-Genevieve statue at Tournelles bridge in Paris.

The corner stone of the WRIGHT monument was laid on 22nd December 1918 during an exceptional ceremony where French-American friendship was emphasized for several reasons. We did commemorate that day the centennial of Marquis de LA FAYETTE election as deputy of Sarthe and simultaneously the 10th anniversary of Wilbur WRIGHT flights in Le Mans and Champagné, Sarthe. The monument was inaugurated on 17th July 1920.

This statue is the world's firts monument ever erected to honor the WRIGHT brothers, long before all others, even those constructed in United States.
